Camp Information

What Is Diabetes Education Camp?
Diabetes Education Camp (DEC) is a 5 day conference "camp" focused on helping adults manage their diabetes.  We are a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Public Charity.  DEC is open to people age 18+ who have all types of diabetes.  You might be a couch potato or a regular gym visitor - no matter - Diabetes Education Camp is for EVERY diabetic who is interested in improving their diabetic life!

The mission of DEC is simple: We believe that through diabetes education, health & fitness training, FUN and collaborative interaction with other diabetics, anyone with diabetes can attend DEC and be smarter, stronger and more in control of their diabetes.

So, if you're ready to ensure that YOU are in charge (and that your diabetes isn't) of your diabetic health, then you should come to camp!

What DEC isn't
DEC is not a medical center.  It's true that our camp counselors have many years of experience helping people with diabetes, but we will not be "practicing medicine" at camp.  We'll work with you -at your request- during the time you're here.  We'll give advice on new methods of diabetes management, new products you can use, and best practices on how to take ownership of your diabetes.  But we will not write prescriptions or run blood work or practice medicine in any way.  This means you'll need to provide your own medications, insulin & other diabetes supplies.  See the What to Bring To Camp list for more information on what to bring.

After camp, you can expect to return home, "re-enter" the real world and interact with your doctor, family and home support system to create a consistent and workable health plan for yourself.

What sorts of activities and events can I expect at Diabetes Education Camp?

How much is camp tuition?
We're trying to make camp comfortable, but affordable.  That's why we've postponed our August 2011 session until we can get our 501c3 non profit status and gather donations to subsidise tuition!  Our goal is to subsidize camp costs with grants/donations so that the price of camp is between $400 and $600 for attendees.

What is included in camp tuition?
Sunday - Saturday (6 nights) lodging
3 meals per day plus snacks
Access to fitness facilities
Indoor and outdoor group activities
Diabetes education, collaboration, fitness and other activities facilitated by experienced diabetes, health & fitness professionals
Access to certified diabetes experts for an entire week

The best week of your life!
